The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC Denver) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve, strengthen, and inspire the community guided by timeless Jewish values. For over 100 years, JCC Denver has served the Greater Denver metro area through educational, social, and cultural programs rooted in Jewish values. The JCC creates a vibrant and inclusive social hub with program areas focused on fostering connection, community, and well-being, including a robust aquatics, fitness, and tennis center; an early learning school; family and early childhood programs; arts and culture; day and overnight camps; and engagement programming for teens, young adults, seniors, and diverse communities.


JCC Denver is seeking a Controller to direct the fiscal functions of the Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center and its subsidiary, the Mizel Arts and Culture Center (MACC), both 501(c)(3) organizations. The Controller will manage a team of professionals responsible for accounting and finance, supplying management with financial information necessary for policy and fiscal decisions, operational efficiency, and effective financial management. This role enhances strategic leadership by implementing plans and policies while administering sound internal controls. The JCC comprises eight distinct business centers, each with unique operations.


The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting, technical, and analytical skills with the ability to see the big picture while managing complex business operations. Nonprofit experience is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

  • Direct preparation of financial reports, statements, tax returns, and reports for the Executive Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors
  • Provide timely analysis of budgets, financial reports, and trends to support senior leadership decision-making
  • Collaborate with the CFO to improve budgeting and forecasting processes and educate department managers on financial matters
  • Optimize cash management, maintain bank relationships, and oversee cash flow projections to meet operating needs
  • Coordinate annual external audits, oversee tax compliance, and ensure timely preparation of all required documentation
  • Manage the finance team responsible for financial reporting, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, banking, and grant/donation accounting
  • Work with Development and program department managers to ensure consistent tracking and recording of grants and donations
  • Participate as a strategic partner in agency planning and advise on the financial impact of long-range initiatives and new programs
  • Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency
  • Provide strategic financial input on membership pricing, employee benefits, capital investments, and contract implications


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required; CPA preferred
  • 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience; nonprofit experience highly preferred
  • Proven leadership ability with experience managing and mentoring finance teams
  • Strong technical accounting skills with strategic planning ability, analytical thinking, and sound judgment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with staff, leadership, and Board members
  • High ethical standards, strong organizational skills, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial systems; experience with Financial Edge, Amilia SmartRec, Campminder, and Salesforce NPSP preferred
  • Ability to analyze complex financial documents and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries
  • Forward-thinking with a "big picture" perspective and understanding of diverse business operations

Salary : $115,000 - $135,000
