As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you are responsible for performing assigned tasks thoroughly and efficiently. You will ensure that your work meets Stadler's quality requirements, including on time performance.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Design
- Generate part and system concepts and select materials to meet the respective needs
- Create models and drawings using CAD software
- General understanding and ability to implement Design for Manufacturability
- Produce part, assembly and mechanical installation drawings, and revise as needed
- Review customer specifications and implement into assigned systems
- Produce engineering change notice documentation
- Write technical documentation to communicate system functionality to suppliers and customer
- Research and understand industry standards (ADA, AWS, AAR, NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, ISO etc.)
- Produce deliverables on time and under budget
- Present information on system progress, cost and schedule for design packages
- Travel to supplier sites to evaluate parts against component-specific technical specifications
- Provide production support through timely completion of Engineering Design Changes
- Collaborate with other team members, maintaining a warm, respectful company culture
- Present System Functional Description of assigned system to large groups consisting of key interest parties from the customer and project management
- Ability to answer questions concisely and provide evidence
- Effectively communicate information to both technical and non-technical parties by adjusting vocabulary and approach
- Work independently with minimal need of explanation or guidance on design tasks and deliverables
- Serve as mentor to less-experienced engineers to answer design and company system questions
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering program required
- 3 -5 years' experience in mechanical design, preferably within commuter rail.
- Intermediate to advanced ability in CAD, CATIA preferred.
- General understanding of Supply-chain and warehouse logistics a plus.
- Microsoft Office high proficiency.
- Machine shop tools and experience preferred.
- Ability to manage time effectively and quickly transition from one task to another.
- Ability to be flexible in a rapidly growing and changing company.
