What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend Horse Care/Barn Assistant position at Stable?
Looking for a long-term knowledgeable and trustworthy individual for barn/horse care in Weldon Spring. Evening feeding shifts take around 2 hours, typically from 5-7pm. Morning shifts take around 3 hours, typically from 8am-11:00am. Currently looking for a person wanting a consistent schedule working Saturday and Sunday mornings or a combination of weekend mornings and Saturday evenings. Weekday morning availability for when Manager is off (only a few times per year) would be ideal.
Duties include feeding/watering, cleaning stalls and/or paddocks, walking horses to/from pasture/turnout and basic care (fly spray, wound care, administering oral medication, blanketing, etc). Must be detail oriented, able to follow direction and work independently, willing to work some holidays, in all weather conditions, have a valid driver's license/reliable transportation that can handle a hilly gravel road, a "can do" attitude, the ability to work on your feet, lift and carry 50 lbs.
Our facility is located on a large property so there is a lot of walking, some after dark. Horses can be unpredictable by nature, so interested candidates MUST have previous horse or large animal care/handling experience, understanding of equine behaviors as well as the ability to recognize emergency and medical situations and act quickly.
***If your application does not specifically mention horse care experience, please send a message with details or your application will not be considered.***
