Biller/coder
Staats Psychiatric Services is seeking an experienced professional with strong E&M coding experience and billing submission to support our growing psychiatric clinic. Some remote work is possible. Flexible schedule 5 eight or 4 10 hour shifts with some flexibility in hours, must include daytime hours.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, E&M coding with an ability to work independently, problem-solve, and collaborate with our providers and staff to ensure timely and ethical billing standards are met.
MUST be experienced in medical coding for a minimum of 2 years
Obtain authorizations, referrals and precertification from insurance companies/physician offices.
Ensure complete and accurate information is entered into the patient accounting
Calculate co-pay and estimated co-insurance due from patients per the individual payer contract per the individual payer contract and plan as applicable
Familiar with individual payer guidelines and the process of collecting over the counter payments/deductibles/co-pay/co-insurance.
Knowledge of payer contracts including Medicare, Medicaid and private payers. Maintain and update fee schedules per contract
Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment.
Essential Functions
- Review patients’ records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis.
- Query clinicians when code assignments are not clear or documentation in the record is insufficient for coding purposes.
- Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adhere to official coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
- Abstract pertinent information from patient records and assign appropriate International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes.
- Conduct chart audits for physician documentation requirements & internal coding; provide nurse practitioners and clinicians education as appropriate.
- Ensure daily accurate medical coding.
- Ensure daily accurate balancing of charges posted.
- Ensure timely daily resolution of any demographic and/or charges submitted lacking necessary information to allow entry.
- Maintain working day to day knowledge of the practice management system.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of E&M coding for psychiatry.
- Maintain confidentially of all information related to patient information
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with peers while ensuring a strong cohesive team.
- Identify areas of coding weakness and develop training plans to address.
- Review/Audit patient disputes surrounding inappropriate coding in a timely manner.
- Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
