• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
• An associate's degree in laboratory science from an accredited institution is required; acceptable degrees include biological, chemical, physical, and laboratory science.
• A Bachelor of Science in chemical, physical, biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution is preferred.
• One (1) year of laboratory experience in a hospital environment, preferred
• MLT or MT( ASCP or AMT) required
• Intermediate Medical Terminology Skills
• Proficient in scientific math
• Attention to detail

The position is responsible for performing laboratory tests, assuring precise and accurate patient results while maintaining essential QA/QC and regulatory requirements.

• Performs, evaluates, and reports laboratory procedures to provide precise and accurate patient results.

• Perform tests only on specimens that are properly collected and properly labeled

• Performs and reports test results within the specific time frame

• Calls critical values to the appropriate caregivers

• Performs quality controls to ensure accuracy of test systems as outlined in procedure manuals and takes appropriate action to correct defects in systems before reporting patient results.

• Performs instrument maintenance as outlined in the operations manual

• Responds to after-hours call-backs per hospital policy.

• Performs venipunctures correctly and efficiently using proper patient identifiers.

• Organizes workload for efficient and rapid reporting of results.

• Maintains and controls blood bank operation.

• Ensure safety by keeping the work area neat and clean.

• Assumes responsibility for personal professional growth and development.

• Attends an appropriate number of continuing education courses annually to fulfill professional recertification requirements.

• Demonstrates initiative by seeking additional tasks or projects to aid the leader and department.

• Acquiring knowledge of and supporting hospital and departmental policies by attending in-services and intradepartmental meetings.

• Receives and contacts other hospital departments, patients, families of patients, and outside related facilities.

• Promotes good relationships with other hospital departments to achieve optimal working conditions.

• Demonstrates flexibility and willingly accepts responsibility, notifying the Department Leader when additional work can be assumed.

• Receives, evaluates, and discusses suggestions and constructive criticism in a professional manner.

• Maintains confidentiality in all medical records and patient matters
