• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited EMT-Basic program is required
• No prior healthcare experience required
• At least one (1) year of general work experience
• Current EMT-Basic certification required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to remain calm and attentive in high-stress situations
• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care
• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively within a team
• Good observational skills and attention to detail
• Physical ability to assist with patient movement and standing for extended periods
• Experience working with diverse populations

The Acute Care Technician (ACT) provides direct support to patients in the acute care unit/Swing bed (ACU), assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting safety, and engaging patients in therapeutic and recreational activities. This role works closely with nursing and clinical staff to ensure patients receive compassionate, attentive, and safe care in a critical healthcare environment.

• Uses Acute Care Unit Guidelines of care to guide work within scope of practice
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding
• Monitor patients to ensure safety and report any changes in condition to nursing staff
• Provide continuous observation for patients assigned to maintain a safe environment
• Support mobility by assisting with ambulation, transfers, and positioning
• Engage patients in appropriate activities to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment
• Follow all infection control and safety protocols
• Assist clinical staff with non-invasive tasks as directed
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Document patient interactions and observations accurately and in a timely manner
• The ACT is responsible for reporting unusual symptoms, observations, patient requests, and/or their families' requests
• The ACT shall identify safety needs and answer call lights promptly
• Accurately and timely documents all tasks, observations, and procedures performed on the patient's record according to medical and legal standards
• Maintains thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records
• Uses Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation (SBAR) communication techniques
• Collaborates with the health care team regarding the plan of care, follow-up, and evaluation for the patient and family
