JOB DESCRIPTION: District Manager
St. Vincent de Paul Marquette District
The District Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the St. Vincent de Paul Marquette District, ensuring the organization fulfills its mission and achieves its goals. The District Manager is responsible for fundraising, program development, financial management, staff supervision, and community engagement. The District Manager reports to the Marquette District Council and is an ex officio, non-voting member of the Council.
NOTE: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international organization with an established Rule. The District Manager is expected to follow the policies and guidelines set forth in the Rule. The business of the Marquette District is accomplished primarily by volunteers.
POSITION STATUS: full-time; salaried-exempt (FLSA classification – executive)
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $65,000.
BENEFITS: Paid holidays, two weeks of vacation, and sick leave as required by the Michigan Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic Leadership:
· Updates the organization’s strategic plan annually in collaboration with the District Council.
· Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness.
· Fosters and maintains excellent relationships with the parishioners and St. Vincent de Paul conferences within the Marquette district.
· Attends diocesan, regional, and national meetings and conferences as approved by the District Council.
- Fundraising and Development:
· Develops and implements a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including donor solicitation and grant-writing,
· Cultivates and maintains relationships with donors, foundations, and corporations.
· Organizes and executes fundraising events.
- Financial Management:
· Submits to the Council in September a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year and provides monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
· Oversees the development of annual operating budgets for the district’s Special Works and presents them for Council approval in September of each year.
· Ensures that sound financial practices are followed throughout the organization.
· Oversees financial reporting and audits in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
· Processes all contracts involved with the work of the district; Council approval required for contracts exceeding $1,000.
- Program Management:
· Identifies new projects and initiatives to address unmet community needs.
· Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure organization viability.
· Ensures that programs are aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
- Staff Management:
· Recruits, hires, and trains managers for the district’s Special Works.
· Ensures that HR (human resource) policies are clear, up-to-date and accessible and that district stores follow the Employee Handbook for Store Employees.
· Provides support, feedback, and performance evaluation for direct reports to ensure continuous improvement.
· Ensures that all employees are evaluated annually and that written evaluation reports are filed.
· Provides professional development opportunities for managerial staff.
· Fosters a positive and productive work environment in alignment with the culture, values, and mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
- Community Relations:
· In partnership with the District President, serves as a spokesperson for the organization.
· Cultivates and maintains relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and government agencies.
· Promotes public awareness of district programs and identifies opportunities to collaborate with other human service entities.
· Cultivates, grows, and maintains donors through proper recognition, sharing information about the organization’s initiatives, and effective use of the donor database.
· Develops marketing strategies that include social media, newsletters, website, public appearances, and TV/radio.
7. Board Relations:
· Attends monthly and special meetings of the District Council and provides informative oral and written reports documenting the status of Special Works and the successes and challenges facing the organization.
· Brings appropriate issues, prospective programs, and policy decisions to the District Council in a timely manner and recommends actions and solutions.
· Develops in conjunction with the District Council President annual performance goals and objectives for presentation to the Council at the October meeting.
· Notifies the District Council immediately of any financial irregularities or potential problems for the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree.
Success in a leadership role, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
Knowledge and experience in business financial practices, including use of technology.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with the principles of servant leadership with an attitude of respect, justice, and caring for the poor and marginalized.
DESIRABLE:
Master’s degree.
Knowledge of human resources.
Demonstrated success in fundraising.
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
