Job Summary
Provide support to two immigration attorneys in immigration-related legal representation for several different vulnerable communities, with a focus on asylum and SIV.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and country conditions research
- Organize documents related to ongoing and closed cases
- Meet with clients to gather information
- Schedule appointments and maintain attorney calendars and own calendar
- Coordinate and schedule interpreters for appointments
- Monitor and return phone calls and voice mail
- Maintain client digital files and program databases
- Draft legal documents such as affidavits and immigration forms
- Case note every communication with clients
- Prepare statistics for various monthly and quarterly reports
- Provide general clerical and administrative support to the attorneys
- Develop and maintain knowledge base of immigration related laws, regulations and pending legislation
- Attend and participate in agency meetings, as appropriate
- Work collaboratively with volunteers and interns
- Advocate for immigrant rights through positive relations with other CBOs and government entities
Qualifications
- Education: B.A. or B.S. preferred
- Experience: Law office or paralegal experience preferred; exposure to US asylum law; experience as part of a multicultural team
- Required Licenses, Certifications, and Training: MI operator license; computer skills; excellent written and oral communications skills; second language (Urdu, Dari, Pashto) preferred

Work Environment & Physical Demands

- Physical requirements include frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; talking, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 30 pounds
- Vision requirements include close-up work, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- The work environment may involve varying degrees of physical discomfort and occasional loud noise
