STS OVERVIEW
St. Timothy’s School is an Episcopal preparatory school committed to strong academics and creating an environment where every student is known. St. Timothy’s enrollment of 500 students ranging from PreK to 8th grade. St. Timothy’s is committed to the emotional, physical, and spiritual growth of each student in an environment where traditional Christian values are emphasized.
POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the After School Program Counselor will facilitate various activities that promote physical activity, healthy community and personal relationships, foster and promote positive personal development and wellness; and to engage and support school aged children and families in STS community. ASC counselors work daily from 2:30 pm -6:15 pm. At St. Timothy’s counselors are honest, passionate about working with children, have good judgment, engaging and like to have fun. Responsibilities and qualifications are outlined below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Counselors are expected to foster a positive and caring environment for the students attending After School Care (ASC)
● Set up snack and play areas prior to students being dismissed to our care
● Help students with homework (when capable and possible)
● Promote positive physical activity
● Ensure students arrive at and are picked up (when necessary) from sports or other enrichments during ASC hours
● Help set up and implement and lead various activities with students
● Manage and engage positively with students during various activities like outside play, homework, and crafts
● Respond to the individual needs of children and establish stable and consistent relationships with each child.
● Liaise sensitively with parents and Director of Auxiliary Programs on matters concerning their children while maintaining confidentiality.
● Ensure that the health and safety needs of the children are met, and all health and safety issues are dealt with immediately and appropriately reporting to Auxiliary Manager the day of the incident.
● Ensure correct procedures are followed for administering first aid.
● Ensure proper sign in is followed daily along with assigned car line procedures being followed.
● Cleaning and tidying of the buildings, café spaces, playground areas and ensuring the safe storage of equipment.
● Report on a regular basis to the Director of Auxiliary Programs regarding issues of need and/or concern.
● Be able to be up and active for the entire duration of programming if necessary
● Finish all closing duties prior to clocking out for the evening
QUALIFICATIONS
● High School Diploma or higher degree
● Responsible - on time, and takes personal ownership of work and responsibilities
● Hard working - always on task, performing responsibilities, and seeking ways to help the program be the best that it can be
● Caring - focused on the students and providing the best experience for them and listening to feedback on how to improve performance
● Ability to work well with children.
● Experience with leading children/youth activities
● Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, the students participating in programming and families if necessary.
● Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with staff, students and parents.
● Demonstrated problem solving ability.
● Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including frequent standing, walking bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling and maintaining interactions with students to ensure safety.
● Physically- be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 pounds and be actively engaged with the activities students are in during ASC
● Ability to use various sports equipment used in program.
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Programs
● Must have availability to work 2:30 PM- 6:15 PM Monday- Friday
