POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Life Division of St. Thomas University has a position available for Director of Residential Community Living. This position is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Executive Director of Student Life. The Director will be responsible for the overall development of housing and assist with the development of student conduct strategies, staff supervision, residence hall community development, residence hall budgets, billing and assignments, crisis response and marketing and educational programming. The Director will also coordinate and participate in an on- call after hour capacity for the residence life program.
The Director will also be expected to build a residential judicial process that manages lower tier judicial infractions within the residential setting. The Director may serve as a hearing officer for violations of university policy and at times the appeals officer for violations of residential hall policy. The Director also serves as a member of the Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team, which is the University behavior intervention team.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic higher education.
- Develops and implements a strategic vision for on-campus community living environment at STU.
- Oversee the growth of the on campus residential population, which will rise to more than 1300 beds by Fall 2025.
- Manage and oversee all aspects of residential living for students, including safety and security concerns, maintenance, and staffing needs.
- Facilitate administrative procedures such as housing assignments, residence hall check-ins and check-outs, occupancy reporting, and key control/inventory.
- Collaborate with campus partners including but not limited to University Police, Compliance, Dining Services, Student Activities, Campus Ministry, Health & Wellness Center, and others to create a vibrant and respectful campus community.
- Conduct regular assessments of residential living programs, soliciting feedback from students and staff to identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor budget and resources for the residential community living department, ensuring that all expenses are within approved limits.
- Respond to critical incidents on campus; work with students, parents, and staff to provide support and referrals.
- Oversee residence hall education and programming efforts.
- Assist with website and Student Handbook updates and revisions, including marketing materials for the residence halls.
- Recruit, train, and supervise resident advisors and other residential life staff, providing support and feedback to ensure their effectiveness.
- Serve as an on-call contact and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, university policies and accreditation standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Life.
The Director may be required to live on campus.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Will oversee Residential Community Living Staff. Additionally, will oversee 20-25 student staff working as Resident Assistants, and Hall Directors.
Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree is preferred, while a bachelor's degree is required.
- Three to five years of managerial experience in a residence life program in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population required with the ability to create and promote an inclusive community.
- Experience investigating and managing student conduct and Title IX related cases.
- Knowledge of Maxient, Colleague, and StarRez and/or other housing or student reporting software.
- A record of personal integrity and a commitment to Catholic higher education are essential.
- Excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to prioritize departmental goals and objectives.
