POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for developing, leading, and advancing the liturgical, pastoral, spiritual, and faith community life on campus, in keeping with the mission of St. Thomas University and the Catholic Church in higher education.
The Director provides vision, strategic leadership, and supervision for all Campus Ministry initiatives, including evangelization, formation, worship, service, recruitment, and liturgical life, while fostering a culture of missionary discipleship across the University.
The Director oversees key ministerial areas including Athletics Ministry, the Catholic Leadership Household (CLH), and the liturgical and music life of the University, ensuring alignment with the mission of the University and the Office of Mission and Ministry.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In supporting the mission and advancement of Campus Ministry, the Director is expected to:
- Coordinate the Campus Ministry program comprised of liturgical events, ongoing faith development programs, retreats, and service/outreach experiences.
- Provide vision and strategic direction for Campus Ministry in alignment with the mission of the University and the Office of Mission and Ministry.
- Facilitate and oversee the campus ministry team in the formulation of departmental goals, objectives, and assessment of outcomes.
- Develop and implement strategies for the recruitment of students into Campus Ministry programs, leadership initiatives, and scholarships.
- Recruit new prospects and transfer students through outreach to high schools, parishes, and youth/young adult groups.
- Fulfill recruitment goals as established by Enrollment and the Office of Mission and Ministry.
In advancing the mission with Worship, Prayer, and Spirituality, the Director is expected to:
- Provide opportunities for involvement of the University community in the liturgical life of the Church and participate in liturgical worship.
- Oversee and coordinate the liturgical life of the University in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission and assigned priests.
- Coordinate the OCIA program in collaboration with campus ministry staff, the Archdiocese of Miami, and assigned parish.
- Oversee retreats, pilgrimages, and spiritual programming for the University community.
- Ensure accessibility of sacramental life and spiritual formation opportunities for diverse populations on campus.
- Supervise and coordinate all liturgical celebrations of the University, including assignment of priests.
- Oversee the training, formation, and coordination of liturgical ministries, including lectors, altar servers, and other liturgical roles.
- Supervise and direct the Music Ministry for Campus Ministry, ensuring the quality, reverence, and theological integrity of sacred music in all liturgical celebrations and major events.
- Ensure the effective coordination or execution of music for daily, Sunday, and major liturgical celebrations, either directly or through delegation to qualified personnel.
- Supervise personnel responsible for music ministry, including composers, musicians, and directors, ensuring the integration of sacred music that reflects the richness of the Catholic liturgical tradition and fosters active participation.
In advancing the commitment with Evangelization, the Director is expected to:
- Form students as missionary disciples and train them to share their love of God and the Church.
- Create and sustain initiatives that foster a culture of evangelization across campus.
- Oversee outreach strategies that engage students—including student-athletes—through personal accompaniment and ministry presence.
- Facilitate inter-religious opportunities and provide pastoral support for students of various faith traditions.
In advancing the commitment with Formation, the Director is expected to:
- Oversee and support faith and leadership formation initiatives for students.
- Ensure strong ministry of presence through engagement in Campus Ministry programs and University events.
- Provide pastoral guidance and support to students, faculty, and staff.
- Support collaboration with academic departments, including the Amaturo School of Theology and Ministry.
In advancing the commitment with Ethical Leadership, Social Justice, and Missionary activity, the Director is expected to:
- Promote service, mission opportunities, and immersion experiences.
- Form students as ethical leaders rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.
- Oversee initiatives that integrate service, justice, and missionary outreach locally and globally.
In leading Athletics Ministry and Strategic Outreach, the Director is expected to:
- Provide oversight, direction, and evaluation of the Athletics Ministry program led by the Associate Director of Campus Ministry and Director of Athletics Ministry.
- Ensure that Athletics Ministry effectively supports the spiritual formation, evangelization, and pastoral care of student-athletes.
- Integrate Athletics Ministry into the broader mission, recruitment strategy, and evangelization efforts of Campus Ministry.
- Support partnerships with Athletics, Admissions, and external Catholic institutions to strengthen recruitment and engagement pipelines.
In overseeing the Catholic Leadership Household (CLH), the Director is expected to:
- Supervise and support the Director of the Catholic Leadership Household (CLH) in the development of student leadership, formation, and community life.
- Ensure that CLH is fully integrated into the mission, recruitment, and formation strategy of Campus Ministry.
- Promote CLH as a key pathway for leadership development, vocational discernment, and Catholic identity on campus.
In the general administration and development of STU Campus Ministry, the Director is expected to:
- Prepare and monitor the budget of the Department of Campus Ministry and Chapel of St. Anthony.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of programs, services, and personnel.
- Supervise Campus Ministry staff, including:
- Associate Director of Campus Ministry and Director of Athletics Ministry
- Director of Catholic Leadership Household (CLH)
- Administrative staff
- Graduate Assistant(s)
- Work-study students
- Music Ministry personnel and liturgical coordinators (including composers, musicians, and directors supporting the liturgical life of Campus Ministry)
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
- Oversee work-study programs, student leadership structures, and program logistics.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide formation for staff and student leaders.
- Participate in professional campus ministry gatherings at local, regional, and national levels.
- Serve on University committees as requested.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The incumbent works from University policies and general objectives, in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission, referring to the supervisor for clarification and interpretation of policies and procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred. Prior related experience required
- Strong understanding of and commitment to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in campus ministry or related pastoral settings.
- Ability to develop and lead strategic initiatives aligned with institutional mission.
- Strong supervisory, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and mentor students, including student-athletes and student leaders.
- Ability to oversee and evaluate liturgical planning and sacred music in accordance with Catholic liturgical norms; familiarity with sacred music traditions and pastoral applications preferred.
- Intercultural competence preferred.
- Computer literacy required.
- Ability to manage budgets and departmental planning.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- Availability for evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment but includes regular movement across campus and attendance at events. May occasionally require lifting/pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds.
