Facilities Maintenance & Operations
- Manage daily operations, maintenance, and repairs of all parish and school buildings, including the church, school, rectory, parish offices, and community spaces.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and other key systems.
- Supervise and schedule custodial and maintenance staff, vendors, and contractors.
- Oversee facility cleaning, ensuring sacred and educational spaces are treated with appropriate reverence and care.
- Ensure campus compliance with diocesan safety policies, local building codes, fire and health regulations, and insurance requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify and resolve potential hazards.
- Maintain logs and documentation for all inspections, permits, and safety drills.
- Participate in emergency planning and respond to facility-related emergencies promptly.
- Set up and support liturgical events (e.g., Mass, weddings, funerals, sacraments) with appropriate furnishings, sound, lighting, and environment.
- Prepare school spaces for daily use and special events, including assemblies, open houses, and fundraisers.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure seamless facility use during religious and educational programs.
- Oversee maintenance of campus grounds, including landscaping, snow removal, and playgrounds.
- Promote good stewardship of parish/school resources through cost-effective, energy-efficient practices.
- Maintain security and key control for all facilities.
- Monitor and manage facilities budget in collaboration with the parish business office or finance council.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning, maintenance, and liturgical supplies.
- Recommend capital improvements and assist with project planning and implementation.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of facilities or maintenance experience, preferably in a church, school, or institutional setting.
- Working knowledge of building systems (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting (50 lbs), climbing, and working in various conditions.
- Ability to lead and supervise a team of maintenance and custodial staff.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and be on-call for emergencies.
- Experience working in a Catholic parish, school, or diocesan environment.
- Familiarity with Catholic liturgical norms and the importance of sacred space.
- Certification in Facility Management, Building Maintenance, or related fields.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing is a plus, though not required.
- This position requires a presence across multiple parish and school buildings.
- Must be able to work around children and families, with appropriate background checks per diocesan safe environment standards.
- Occasional extended hours for holidays, Holy Days of Obligation, or major events.
