Role DescriptionThe Assistant Soccer Coach / Junior Varsity Head Coach is a full-time, on-site position supporting the St. Thomas More soccer program. This role works closely with the Head Coach in planning and conducting training sessions, developing players' technical and tactical abilities, and promoting the overall success of the program.
In addition to assisting with the varsity program, the successful candidate will serve as the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity (JV) team. The JV Head Coach will be responsible for planning and leading JV training sessions, managing matches, evaluating player development, and ensuring alignment with the overall philosophy and objectives of the St. Thomas More soccer program.
Daily responsibilities include assisting with practice preparation, supervising drills, providing individual and group feedback, managing team logistics, preparing for matches, and supporting player evaluations. The Assistant Coach / JV Head Coach is expected to promote sportsmanship, maintain a safe and inclusive environment, and collaborate with school staff to ensure that athletic participation contributes positively to students' academic and personal development.
Additional duties may include attending coaches' meetings, communicating with students and families regarding team expectations and events, assisting with recruitment efforts, and helping oversee the development pathway from the JV program to the varsity team.
Qualifications- Demonstrated experience in soccer coaching and player development.
- Ability to independently lead a team as a Head Coach while collaborating within a larger coaching staff.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear instruction and constructive feedback.
- Background or interest in education and working with student-athletes in a school environment.
- Knowledge of soccer rules, tactics, training methodologies, and injury prevention best practices.
- Previous experience coaching youth, academy, high school, or school-age athletes preferred.
- Ability to foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Relevant coaching certifications or licenses are preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is beneficial.
- Assist the Head Coach with varsity team training sessions and match preparation.
- Serve as the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity team.
