As a Registered Nurse (RN) you will assume responsibility and accountability for:
  • Facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
  • Promote the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.

Job Requirements

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified nursing candidates will need the following:

Education Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Nursing required; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RNs
Experience Requirements
  • One year experience preferred
  • Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
Licenses/Certification Requirements
  • RN License required; Current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
Physical Requirements
  • Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)

St. Thomas More Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, is the cornerstone of health care services for Fremont County and surrounding southern Colorado communities. St. Thomas More offers 24 hour emergency and trauma services; inpatient acute care; intensive care; labor, delivery, and nursery care; multi-modal diagnostic imaging; inpatient and outpatient surgical services; rehabilitation services; cardiopulmonary rehab and diagnostics; sleep studies; an infusion center; wound care; and a community blood bank. We are on a mission to provide high quality care with zero harm to patients and employees. Our board-certified physicians specialize in emergency medicine, internal medicine, urology, bariatric services, obstetrics/gynecology services, general surgery, orthopedic surgery and osteopathic treatment. Employees of St. Thomas More enjoy the camaraderie of a close-knit community hospital, the relaxed feel of small-town life and an affordable cost of living in a town rich in culture and historic architecture. Canon City has an assortment of restaurants, and breweries, and Farmer's Markets in the summer months.


The Surgery department at St. Thomas More Hospital has ten SDS (Same Day Surgery) beds, seven PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) beds, five Infusion Center rooms, two GI lab rooms and five OR suites. Our patient mix is surgical, endoscopy and infusion. Our department is made up of a dedicated team with excellent relationships between the employees and the surgeons. We are proud of our excellent surgical outcomes.
