School Safety Coordinator
The primary purpose of the School Safety Coordinator (SSC) is to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The SSC will work to foster positive relationships with students and the learning community while also working in tandem with existing Administrative practices and building procedures to maintain order, prevent crime, and assist the building Administration with the operations of the school on school property or at school-sponsored events when necessary and appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor surveillance and security panel alarm systems, communicating necessary information to determine what action is needed, and facilitate the appropriate emergency response.
- Check fire extinguishers and emergency lights on a monthly basis and report issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Notify the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
- Assist administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Assist administrators and staff with emergency drills throughout the year.
- Conduct area physical/visual inspection of the playground prior to classes leaving the school building for morning and lunch recesses.
- Ensure that recess monitors are positioned properly and performing duties as assigned.
- Responsible for assigning monitors to classrooms if recess is held indoors. Perform regular check-ins with monitors during indoor recess.
- Issue handheld walkie talkies to all teachers, Instructional Assistants, Lunchroom Supervisor and Lunch/Recess Assistants.
- Perform regular checks on handheld walkie talkies used by teachers and staff.
- Responsibility for regularly briefing teachers and staff on evacuation routes that address threats from the surrounding area and threats from inside the school.
- Review procedures for class movements entering and exiting the building to ensure maximum safety.
- Maintain keys and key fobs.
- Supervise safety patrols and carpool procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience/Knowledge
- Excellent problem solving and people management skills.
- Responsible and professional leadership.
- Above average computer skills and knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and electronic monitoring equipment.
- Ability to review and evaluate operating procedures and recommend improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- CPR/AED certification
- Minimum 2 - 3 years related experience in the field
