What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Teacher position at St. Theresa Catholic School?
Music Teacher, Grades K-8
4 days per week, per school year
Opportunity for 5th day of week as children's choir director for the church
Reports to: Principal (and Pastor if optional 5th day)
Responsibilities:
- Provide for the spiritual, moral, physical, emotional, and intellectual development of the children
- Help live, instill and motivate the Mission of St. Theresa School
- Teach General Music once weekly to K-6 following Diocese guidelines.
- Teach specialized classes as electives to grades 7-8
- Follow Diocesan Curriculum Guidelines for Music
- Organize, direct and produce a Christmas Concert and Pageant for the parents/school community
- Provide music for all school Masses, usually weekly (school chorus sings under the music teacher’s direction.)
- Provide choral instruction outside of the classroom.
- Organize and produce student performances at Christmas and in spring.
- Morning carpool duty
- Coordinate with band instructor on his or her day at our school and communicate on shared space.
- Coordinate the use of the gym/stage with the P.E. teacher daily as needed, and with other staff for assemblies and other special events, to include use of the sound system.
- Be present in school and available for all assigned duties during work hours
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be deeply committed to the development of the faith life of the teachers and students and dedicated to the ministry of the Catholic Education
- Have a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Music Education, or related
- Hold appropriate Virginia or VCEA Certification
- Hold Basic Diocesan Religion Certification or be eligible to obtain this certification within three years of hire.
- Drama/Play Production experience a plus
