PART-TIME COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR
St. Teresa’s Academy (STA) is a Catholic, accredited, college-preparatory high school that provides young women with a premier education that includes a rigorous academic curriculum and technology program, award-winning arts and athletics programs, and service and mission opportunities. STA, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, educates young women to think critically, encourages them through Catholic values to serve others, and empowers them to make a profound impact on the world.
The Academy is seeking a part-time Computer Science instructor to work with the Principal for Academic Affairs, Director of STEAM Projects & Education and STA colleagues. This educator will support and integrate the values of St. Teresa’s Academy and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet into the daily work and curriculum, igniting a passion for computer science, rigor, and excellence.
|| Responsibilities ||
The duties of a Computer Science instructor include:
- Creating lesson plans, preparing classroom activities, organizing teaching materials, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom records, meeting with parents, teachers, and other professionals, and participating in campus events
- Teaching required courses and electives which may include Computer Science Discoveries, AP Computer Science
- Opportunity to coach the STARbots Robotics /First Tech Challenge TeamMay include honors, college dual credit courses and/or advanced placement courses pending certification
- Supporting the school’s mission and the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet
|| Qualifications ||
- A bachelor’s degree in the field of Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Secondary or Post-Secondary teaching experience preferred
- An understanding of the importance of computer science, coding and robotics in school education and ability to support an engaging curriculum around the ideas of computer science, coding, and robotics
- Must have programming and/or coding experience (Java and/orPython)
- Prior experience in computer science, coding, and robotics project-based learning is desirable
- A demonstrated passion and expertise in the teaching of computer science, robotics, and technology
- Be conversant with current thinking on teaching K-12 computer science, including the CSTA curriculum, Code.org and other resources
- Be eager to research and learn new programming languages and technologies and bring them into the classroom
- Identify and update computer science curriculum changes to be in line with national best practices
- Inspire students to pursue computer science and engineering fields by bringing in guest speakers, demonstrations of technology, and other activities
- A desire to inspire young women through excellent instruction
- Be an exemplar in the use of technology in the classroom to engage learners and build positive relationships
- Collaborative spirit in developing cross-curricular experiences for students
- Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and an emphasis on student-centered learning
- Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Proven organizational skills
- Understanding of the Catholic faith, single-sex schools, and the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet preferred
