JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: TBD Work Shift: 7am - 7pm PRN (as needed) JOB SUMMARY: The Unit Clerk provides clerical support services to the department staff. Job responsibilities include clerical duties such as telephone and front desk management. The Unit Clerk may obtain initial patient information and may communicate with hospital departments and physician office staff to assist in improving patient throughput. The ideal candidate can prioritize and organize tasks with little delegation from nursing staff. The ideal candidate is a self-starter. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required, some college education preferred. BLS required upon hire. Certification may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Computer background helpful; must have excellent time management, communication skills, is well organized, able to multi-task, have knowledge of medical terminology, able to handle stress and maintain confidentiality. The unit clerk will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
