Description:

St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy is seeking a passionate and dependable Long-Term Substitute Music Teacher to serve our students from August through November 2026 while our regular music teacher is on leave.


The Music Teacher will provide engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction while helping students develop an appreciation for music, creativity, discipline, collaboration, and the gifts God has given them. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working with students, committed to Catholic education, and able to create a positive and structured classroom environment.


This position is an important part of our school community and will include opportunities to support the musical and liturgical life of St. Rose.

Requirements:

Music Instruction
  • Provide music instruction to students across assigned grade levels.
  • Develop engaging lessons that include but are not limited to singing, rhythm, movement, listening, music theory, instruments, and other appropriate musical experiences.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs and abilities of individual students.
  • Maintain high expectations for student participation, effort, and behavior.
  • Assess student learning and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, assignments, and grades as required.
Classroom Culture & Management
  • Establish and maintain a safe, structured, joyful, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Teach and reinforce classroom expectations and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate student supervision at all times.
  • Use positive classroom management strategies that preserve student dignity.
  • Address behavioral concerns consistently and communicate significant concerns with the appropriate school personnel.
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Catholic & Liturgical Music
  • Support the musical needs of the school community and liturgical celebrations.
  • Prepare students for appropriate Mass music, songs, and other school celebrations.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and parish personnel regarding musical needs.
  • Help students understand that music can be a form of prayer and a way to use their gifts in service of God and others.
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, school leadership, and support staff.
  • Communicate regularly with the appropriate grade-level teachers regarding student needs and behavior.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development as required.
  • Follow schoolwide procedures and expectations.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with families when appropriate.
Technology & School Systems
  • Utilize school technology and instructional platforms as required.
  • Maintain appropriate grades and student records in Sycamore.
  • Use Google Classroom and other school platforms as directed.
  • Follow school procedures regarding communication with families through ClassDojo and other approved platforms.
Long-Term Substitute Expectations

Because this is a long-term substitute position, consistency will be especially important.

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain the routines and expectations already established in the music classroom.
  • Review and utilize existing curriculum, lesson plans, materials, and resources.
  • Provide continuity for students during the teacher's absence.
  • Communicate questions or concerns to school leadership rather than making significant changes to established systems without consultation.
  • Leave clear notes, records, and materials to support a smooth transition when the regular teacher returns.
Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Experience teaching music or working in a music education setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to collaborate with teachers and school leadership.
  • An appreciation for Catholic education and the mission of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy.
  • Ability to create an engaging, joyful, and structured learning environment.

A degree or formal training in music education is preferred but may not be required depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.


Schedule & Compensation
  • Position: Long-Term Substitute Music Teacher
  • Term: August 2026 through November 2026
  • Schedule: School-day hours consistent with the St. Rose faculty schedule
  • Professional Development: Participation in required faculty meetings and professional development
  • Compensation: Based on experience and school compensation guidelines
