JOB SUMMARY:
The Social Services Specialist is responsible for providing high quality patient care, displaying good skills in assisting with treatment planning, group treatment and discharge planning. The Social Services Specialist will assist with the coordination of the referrals and inquiries process. Additionally, he/she is expected to function well as a member of the multidisciplinary team and participate in the unit community relations program.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year related clinical experience required, preferably in an acute care setting.
EDUCATION:
Bachelors of Social Work required; Graduate from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education preferred.
- Continuing education credits each year required. BLS Required.
APTITUDES:
- High degree of interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a health care team member.
- Vocal, visual, auditory and manual ability adequate to perform clinical social work intervention. Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in the English language.
- Bi-lingual an asset.
- Knowledge of community and system resources.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently.
