What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forensic RN - Emergency Department (Per Diem) position at St Peters Hospital?
The Forensic Nurse is responsible for the coordination of health care services for all Sexual Assault, domestic violence, victims of human trafficking or any patient that requests a forensic examination during the acute period and ensures follow up coordination is available.
Main duties and functions:
- Perform emergent medical triage of the presenting patient
- Conduct medical forensic examinations in accordance with state standards, local protocol and best practices
Maintain chain of custody for collected forensic evidence
Provide testimony as applicable
Educate survivors on the health impacts of sexual assault, domestic violence and trauma
Provide medical health referrals as appropriate
Provide support services referrals as appropriate
Maintain proficiency in Forensic examinations and completes required continuing education
Works collaboratively with law enforcement, victims advocacy services and legal entities
Coverage of on-call hours, to include holiday and weekend coverage
Participate in community education and outreach projects as needed by the Program Coordinator

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Qualifications
- RN license state of Montana required
- BLS required
- TNCC and ENPC preferred (required within 1 year of hire)
- Two years Healthcare experience in applicable field required
- SANE training required
- SANE Certification preferred (required within 18 months of hire)
- Two years Forensic Nursing experience preferred
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, time management and program development
