Maintenance- Janitor Job Description
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position requires the employee to perform custodial and simple maintenance work.
Custodial: Under general supervision, performs cleaning tasks and operation of various
types of cleaning equipment to care for and maintain assigned buildings and related
facilities; performs related work as required.
Maintenance: Functions include worker performing jobs under general direction within
a framework of established procedures. The worker is expected to perform a variety of
semiskilled building maintenance and repair work based upon prior experience. Must
have knowledge of general tools, their care, construction and use. Must also have
knowledge of materials, methods and practices involved in building, maintenance and
repair, including functions such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting; safe
work practices; estimating materials and labor need.
Certificates, License and Registrations Required:
Must maintain current record of CPR and 1 st Aide.
Must have the authorization to work in the United States as defined by the
Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
Must pass the state and federal required fingerprint screening to obtain an AZ IVP
card
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or
One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience
Be able to pass training and testing within first 90 days of employment
Must have received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct
DUTIES OF THE JOB (MAJOR AND MINOR TASKS):
Custodial: Sweeps and mops floors; vacuums, strips and polishes floors with floor
machine, as needed; on occasion, helps set up multipurpose room and courtyard for
functions (this would include rearranging and putting up cafeteria tables and chairs);
may be required to move furniture when cleaning classrooms; cleans windows and
doors, as needed; cleans restrooms, including floors, sinks and toilet facilities; replaces

restroom products and supplies, as needed; monitors daytime and/or evening activities,
including security of campus; alarms and de-alarms buildings, as necessary.
Maintenance: Depending upon experience in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, the
worker can be required to perform tasks like assembling furniture, helping with
inventory, minor electrical and plumbing repair that does not require an outside agency.
Performs any other tasks assigned by the Principal and or designee
GENERAL SKILLS:
Understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; cleaning and caring for
assigned areas and equipment; working knowledge of the operation of the tools,
materials and equipment provided; setting work priorities; working independently in the
absence of supervision; punctual and reliable, establishing and maintaining cooperative
relationships with those contacted in the course of work; ability to, at times, lift heavy
items in a safe manner.
Schedule: Often requires flexible hours (afternoons, evenings, or weekends) to
accommodate parish events and school schedules
