Youth Director (full-time)
St. Paul UMC in Christiansburg, Virginia, is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to provide Christian faith-based leadership for young people. Our congregation offers the right candidate an opportunity to creatively develop UMC based curriculum, in concert with the St. Paul UMC identity as forward-thinking followers of Jesus who welcome all.
The primary objectives of the Youth Director will be:
1) Lead in building a faith-based youth program; and
2) Connect the families of our youth and children into the life and activities of the church; and
3) Engage with families, youth within St. Paul and our community in person and via social media
Responsibilities include:
Selecting, or creating, and implementing a new Sunday School and faith building curriculum for all preadult ages. Providing learning opportunities that allow questioning and exploring, while supporting and equipping our children and youth in spiritual formation, and also witnessing to them the challenges and joys of following Jesus in our world.
Recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers to participate in coordinating and leading classes and activities.
Personally lead our young people in fellowship, and in coordination with the Outreach committee, in service projects and missional outreach as means of spiritual formation.
Design and conduct activities to welcome non-member local families with youth & children, in coordination with other church staff and leaders.
Developing parent support groups, meeting regularly with parents of children and teens.
Attend Sunday service during the academic school year, and midweek when needed for programs (e.g. Wonderful Wednesdays, Community Vacation Bible School, etc.)
Meet and welcome member and guest families before Sunday service.
Provide occasional Children’s Story during Sunday service.
Attending appropriate meetings; Staff, Nurture, Outreach.
Establish social media presence across multiple platforms and update regularly with events and opportunities for the congregation, youth and community.
Participate in developing and monitoring the use of a budget for activities in the areas of responsibility.
Qualifications:
Required:
Strong Christian faith
Knowledge of/familiarity with UMC and Wesleyan beliefs and traditions
Excellent communication and personal interaction skills
Experience leading activities or events for youth groups
Valid driver’s license
Background check and Safer Sanctuaries training (upon hire)
Preferred:
Completed or pursuing Bachelor’s degree
Experience in coordinating youth groups in a faith-based setting (leading a Sunday School class, mission trips, camp, etc.)
Job Type: 32 hours/week
Pay: $38,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
