What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childcare Worker position at St. Paul's Lutheran Church?
We are a Lutheran church seeking to hire additional childcare workers to best serve families within our church and community during church services and events. The childcare worker position requires both working in the nursery with children aged 0-5 on Sunday mornings and working with children aged 0-5th grade during evening meetings and events as needed.
Work hours: Part-Time hours vary
Reports to: The Church Office and Pastor Ben Murray
Work Schedule: Working with children aged 0-5 on Sunday mornings from 7:45 am to 12:00 pm. Working with children aged 0-5th grade during evening meetings or events the last Wednesday of the month, 5:45-7:00 pm; every other Thursday evening for Women’s Bible Study and Fellowship, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm; Family Nights once a month every other month 5:30 pm-8:00 pm, usually on the 1st or 2nd Friday or Saturday of the month, depending on the time of year. Additional events may arise throughout the year that require extra childcare.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for providing age-appropriate care, which includes:
a. Interacting with children through games, stories, play, and prayer
b. Feeding (snacks if applicable)
c. Changing diapers
d. Escorting kids to the bathroom
e. Maintaining a safe environment (including dismissal policy)
2. Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers.
3. Straighten the room and clean any used toys/tables before leaving.
4. Arrive 15 minutes before service and stay with the children until secured with their responsible adult's name on their check-in form (7:45 am – 12:00 pm).
5. Report to Pastor Ben Murray any issues that are hindering the carrying out of the duties or responsibilities.
6. Communicate with the scheduler in the church office in advance:
a. Planned absences 2 weeks ahead of time.
b. In the case of last-minute illness, as soon as you know you are calling out sick.
Qualifications Preferred
1. At least 21 years of age.
2. Agreement with the Apostle’s Creed.
3. Experience in caring for children from birth to 5th grade.
4. Satisfactory completion of background check.
5. First aid and CPR trained preferred.
