Role Description
The 6th grade humanities teacher is responsible for the 6th grade humanities program which includes 6th grade English and language arts as well as the 6th grade ancient world history course. This teacher works closely with the 5th grade teaching team, the middle school teaching team (especially the 7th and 8th grade history and English teachers), and the Division Head to ensure a quality 6th grade learning experience. This person will be an innovative and collaborative classroom teacher dedicated to embodying the St. Paul’s mission of developing confident learners and ethical leaders.
Major tasks & duties
Plan and deliver instructionally sound and engaging lessons to help students grow in their critical thinking and communication skills
Collaborate with the history and English teachers at other grade levels and Division Head in aligning teaching practices and content
Adapt and differentiate content delivery with the help of the learning specialist to ensure that all students are supported and enriched in daily classroom activities
Stay up-to-date on best educational practices for middle school and implement new and innovative strategies when appropriate
Host an elective each semester in an area of the teacher’s choosing
Chaperone one annual grade level anchor trip
Teach chapel lessons and integrate the school’s life skills into the curriculum
Provide clear and timely communication with colleagues and parents both in writing and in person as needed
Conduct parent/teacher conferences, complete grade cards, and be available to meet with parents and students as needed
Post students’ assignments on our learning management system (LMS) each day and keep students’ grades updated regularly within the LMS
Order and maintain appropriate supplies and materials and work within provided budget
Monitor students during other unstructured activity times such as break and lunch
Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including attending division and all school meetings, divisional and All School chapels, professional workdays, and admissions related events
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field
