Position Summary

St. Paul Methodist Church of New Ellenton is seeking a faithful, compassionate, and community-minded Part-Time Pastor to provide spiritual leadership for our congregation.

The pastor will lead Sunday worship approximately three out of four Sundays each month, provide pastoral care to church and community members, and help guide the congregation’s worship, mission, and outreach efforts.

This position is well suited for a pastor who feels called to serve a caring congregation through biblical preaching, meaningful worship, personal visitation, prayer, and active involvement in the life of the church and community.

The pastor will work in cooperation with church leaders, musicians, ministry volunteers, and committees to support the mission and ministry of St. Paul Methodist Church.

Primary ResponsibilitiesWorship Leadership and Preaching

• Prepare and deliver biblically grounded, Christ-centered sermons.
• Lead Sunday morning worship approximately three out of four Sundays each month.
• Serve approximately 38–42 Sundays during the year.
• Work with church leaders, musicians, and worship volunteers in planning meaningful worship services.
• Lead the congregation in prayer and provide spiritual guidance during worship.
• Help plan and lead seasonal and special services, including Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Communion services, and other significant occasions.
• Administer the sacraments and provide leadership for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other services as appropriate and mutually agreed upon.

Pastoral Care

• Provide approximately six to eight hours of pastoral visitation and congregational care each week, based on current needs.
• Visit members who are hospitalized, homebound, grieving, facing illness, or experiencing other personal challenges.
• Provide prayer, encouragement, spiritual counsel, and support to members and families.
• Respond, when reasonably available, to urgent pastoral-care needs.
• Offer compassionate care to individuals and families within the surrounding community when appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality and use sound pastoral judgment in all personal and family matters.

Mission and Community Ministry

• Help guide and encourage the church’s mission, outreach, and service efforts.
• Encourage members to use their gifts in service to Christ, the congregation, and the community.
• Participate in selected mission projects, community events, and church outreach activities.
• Help the congregation identify opportunities to care for people in New Ellenton and the surrounding area.
• Support the church in developing ministries that welcome visitors and strengthen connections with the community.

Special Programs and Church Life

• Assist with special programs and events throughout the year.
• Participate in selected church meetings, planning sessions, and ministry discussions as needed.
• Work cooperatively with the church’s lay leadership, Worship Committee, musicians, and ministry volunteers.
• Provide spiritual guidance while respecting the responsibilities and authority of the church’s elected leaders and committees.
• Help maintain clear and timely communication regarding worship plans, pastoral-care needs, and upcoming ministry activities.

Expected Time Commitment

The schedule will vary according to congregational and pastoral-care needs. The expected commitment generally includes:

• Sunday morning worship leadership approximately three Sundays per month.
• Approximately 38–42 Sundays of worship leadership annually.
• Sermon preparation and worship planning.
• Approximately six to eight hours per week of visitation and pastoral care.
• Additional time for funerals, weddings, seasonal services, meetings, mission projects, and special events as needed.

Weekday hours may be arranged with flexibility. The pastor and church leadership will communicate regularly to maintain reasonable expectations for this part-time position.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will:

• Demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a clear calling to pastoral ministry.
• Be able to preach and teach Scripture with clarity, faithfulness, and practical application.
• Support the Christian beliefs, mission, and ministry of St. Paul Methodist Church.
• Possess strong communication, relational, and organizational skills.
• Show compassion and sensitivity when caring for individuals and families.
• Be dependable, approachable, and able to work cooperatively with lay leaders and volunteers.
• Demonstrate good judgment, personal integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
• Be willing to serve people of different ages, backgrounds, and life circumstances.
• Be ordained, licensed, commissioned, or otherwise appropriately qualified to provide pastoral leadership and administer the sacraments.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

• Previous pastoral, preaching, or church leadership experience.
• Experience providing pastoral visitation and care.
• Familiarity with Methodist or Wesleyan theology and worship traditions.
• Experience working with a congregation led through shared ministry between clergy and laity.
• A heart for community outreach, missions, and small-church ministry.

Compensation

This is a part-time compensated position. Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, responsibilities, and the final ministry agreement established between the selected candidate and the church.
