What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Paraprofessional position at St. Paul Elementary?
Saint Paul School is a Catholic community in which love of God, neighbor and self are
foremost. We provide a challenging curriculum promoting academic excellence infused
with Catholic traditions and values.
A paraprofessional is responsible for helping the head teacher in the classroom by
performing assigned duties. In cooperation with the head teacher in the classroom, the
paraprofessional performs many of the same tasks, such as passing out and collecting
work, enforcing classroom and school rules, and greeting children when they arrive to
and depart from school. Under the supervision of the head teacher, the paraprofessional
may take over teaching the class as whole on an occasional basis, get the young
students settled for the day, and help them with the morning routine. Paraprofessionals
may complete supportive work, such as organizing paperwork, photocopying, and
preparing and producing materials used in instruction, bulletin boards, and classroom
displays. Duties such as record keeping, materials inventory, and technical support for
classroom computers may also be required. This support is provided, reflective of our
Catholic values.
Other responsibilities of a paraprofessional may include:
* Assisting individual students
* Supervising children before school, at lunch, in the hallways, and at recess
* Accompanying students and teacher on trips or outings
* Escorting children who need to leave the classroom for any reason
* Assist with light cleaning
* Attend staff meetings
The paraprofessional may also provide assistance to other teachers and/or other school
personnel in the delivery of quality education and support services for students in the
classroom.
All positions at Saint Paul School fall under the coordinated leadership of the
Principal. The Principal may assign additional tasks as necessary to ensure the
continued smooth and safe operation of the school.
