The Career Coach is responsible for providing career development, experiential learning and job search assistance to undergraduate and graduate students in a comprehensive career center. As a member of a Catholic and Marianist community, this position advises students through the discernment process in order to develop their view of career as not only a series of jobs, but as their vocation and calling. The position interacts with students on an individual and group basis to guide them towards a purposeful life as a leader for the common good.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides career and professional coaching and job search assistance to undergraduate and graduate students in one-on-one, small group, or classroom settings;
  • Delivers career and professional development programming under the direction of department leadership;
  • Collects and reports student career and professional development metrics to determine programming success;
  • Monitors trends and industry and job market changes along with employer demands in order to inform career and professional development activities;
  • Assists with student workers as directed;
  • Contributes and reviews content for social media and the virtual career center;
  • Attends and participates in University and Career Center events as required;
  • Performs requirements of the position maintaining professional ethics stated by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE);
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university required.
  • Two (2) years of work experience required; experience in career services, or other student service areas at a college/university is strongly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook); experience with software applications, such as Handshake, Adobe Creative Suite, and various contact management systems to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports as they pertain to the career development process is preferred. Will have knowledge of generative A.I. as it applies to career and professional development trends.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities to assist in the preparation of department personnel policy information. Use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments. Decisions are made regarding policy interpretation and individual work priorities
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate a capacity for leadership, and the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality due to access to confidential data relating to student personal files and employer recruiting information; will be expected to maintain the confidentiality of the advisor-student relationship, make appropriate referrals, and will be responsible for appropriate management of personal and academic student data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
