Lead Teacher (Pre-K, 4-Year-Old)

Overview:
St. Mary’s Catholic School is seeking a Pre-K (4-year-old) Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher serves as the educational leader at the Pre-K level to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, child-centered learning environment that meets and exceeds the Illinois Learning Standards Benchmarks for Education, following the approved curriculum.

Candidates should be highly motivated, creative, and enthusiastic to teach in an inviting, faith-filled environment. The ideal candidate needs to have excellent organizational, lesson planning, and communication skills. Responsibilities:

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
• Communicates effectively with parents, students, and members of the community.
• Differentiate teaching plans according to varying needs of students.
• Collaborate with fellow staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Engage with parents to keep them informed of their child’s academic progress and development.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and provide regular feedback.
• At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations.
• Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively.
• Works collaboratively with the Preschool-Kindergarten team in order to lead and nurture students.
• Maintain confidential information and display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, teaching, or related field is preferred
• Excellent leadership and organizational skills
• The ability to motivate children and have enthusiasm in the area of early childhood learning
• Excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative, and strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example
• Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, and classroom management
• Must meet all Diocese of Belleville background check requirements
• A deep commitment to Catholic education and the mission of St. Mary’s Catholic School
