What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Teacher position at St. Mary’s Ryken?
St. Mary’s Ryken is seeking two positions in the Mathematics Department:
- Full Time Math Teacher - for students in grades 9-12
- Long-Term Substitute Math Teacher - to cover upcoming leave in the department
Both positions require engaging instruction, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to supporting student success.
Strong candidates will design lessons that lead to mastery of concepts and skills with and without technologies (graphing calculator, iPad applications, appropriate software, etc.). Additionally, successful candidates will develop lesson plans using a variety of teaching methods. Lessons should include multiple representations of concepts, including verbal, graphical, numerical, and analytic. Candidates must communicate mathematics in a clear and expressive manner, using correct terminology and notation. Teaching math at SMR means you have a school community that is committed to high standards and students' long-term success. SMR Math teachers bring a deep understanding of concepts, delve into real world implications, utilize technology and develop a greater STEM focus.
Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree in Math or Math Education and teaching experience are preferred.
Enthusiasm for teaching math and working with students in an independent, college preparatory setting
State teaching licensure/certification is preferred, but is not a hiring prerequisite
Be an experienced and adaptive mathematics educator with a student-centered pedagogical approach
Additionally, candidates will have a substantive command of mathematical concepts across the range of topics. Candidates will demonstrate experience using a range of teaching methods, and will possess a joy for teaching and the habits of lifelong learning.
