Middle School Coordinator and

 Youth & Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

 

Position:  Middle School Coordinator and Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

 

Job Description:  The primary focus of the position is:

1.      Middle School Faith Formation Coordinator (Grades 6 – 8)

2.       Youth Ministry Coordinator for Middle and High School students

3.       Young Adult Ministry (see below for more details)

 

Work Description: The 40 hours a week position of Middle School Coordinator and Youth and young Adult Ministry requires flexible work days including evenings and weekends. 

 

Supervision:  The Middle School Coordinator and Youth and Young Adult Ministry shall report to the Administrator to Faith Formation                                                             

 

General Responsibilities

l  Attend weekly Faith Formation staff meetings.

l  Organize and implement weekly Youth Group gatherings for MS and HS (date/time TBD).

l  Coordinate/ manage Middle School catechetical programs for grades 6 – 8 Sunday evenings.

l  Create faith formation opportunities for young adults.

l  Recruit and train young adult and adult volunteers for different ministries within Middle School and High School programs

l  Maintain close relationship with diocesan directors of Youth and Young adult ministry.

l  Create and maintain youth outreach evangelization using internet and technology.

l  Provide various social, catechetical, and service opportunities for middle and high school    

      students and young adults, (e.g., sporting events, prayer services, individual parish involvement,   

      and local service projects).

l  Promote and provide opportunities to foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

l  Provide leadership development and faith formation for all leaders and volunteers in ministry program.

l  Cooperate with the FF Team in creating and maintaining a calendar of events for Faith Formation class, retreats, celebrations and special events

l  Understanding fully the policies of the Catholic Diocese of Erie and the State of Pennsylvania regarding Child Care Protection and live by them – collaborating with the FF Admin. To make sure all persons are screened who are having contact with children and adults with special needs who are under our care

 

6th - 8th Grade Faith Formation Coordinator

l  Facilitate curriculum, service projects, and outreach to be implemented for 6th - 8th grade youth  

l  Seek to develop a relational ministry by witnessing and getting to know this age level.

l  With catechists, promote youth ministry and service opportunities for faith  

    formation students.

·         Collaborate with the FF Administrator to create Rosters, Schedules, Communications, Record Keeping, Ordering of all supplies and Materials, etc.

·         All other tasks that may be required : #1, to direct/lead a professional and effective 6th, 7th and 8th grade Faith Formation

 

 

Middle School and High School Youth Ministry Responsibilities:

l  Conduct one-to-one relationships and community-building activities which create in young

people a sense of belonging to both the community of parish youth and to the broader parish 

community. Goals and programming in this area include: participation in diocesan youth events,

 

DME retreats, youth rallies, youth conferences and March for Life.

l  Plan, develop and implement a schedule of service activities for the youth (6-12 grades) of the

parishes in order to develop their sense of responsibility to and awareness of the needs of the

parish community, the diocesan church community and the larger social community.

l  Keep youth and parents informed of local and diocesan programs, social service and retreat

opportunities through distribution of a calendar of scheduled activities, bulletin announcements,

mailings, flyers, local and diocesan papers, internet and phoning.

l  Where appropriate, refer youth and parents to suitable updated reading and resource materials

for youth spiritual and catechetical information and enrichment.

l  Organize and supervise suitable fundraising activities to help pay for youth camps, conferences, retreats and missions.

l  Be a listening presence for adolescents and their parents and make referrals when appropriate;

and provide support groups, workshops or other forums to help young people cope with personal

                  problems and crises.

l  Maintain administrative records/attendance on youth participating in programs and clearances

for adult volunteers.

 

Young Adult Ministries

l  As time permits, begin developing social and catechetical opportunities for young adults (late

  teen, twenties, and thirties, married and single.)

 

Additional Responsibilities

l  Website and computer knowledge is required.

l  Meet regularly with team and pastors to evaluate approach and program effectiveness. 

l  Provide opportunities to foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

l  Publicize youth programs, as appropriate, to the youth, general congregation, and the community.

l  Develop regular communication with youth of the 4 parishes through bulletin updates, mailings,

email and phone calls, visits at school, and sports events.

l  Oversee the planning and supervision of the activities of youth participation in the diocese and

other youth camps, conferences, retreats and missions.

l  Be a team member in the coordination of the one-week summer vacation bible school

emphasizing the importance of teen participation.

l  Attend Parish Council meetings of each parish respectively on occasion to update them on youth

happenings.

l  Commit to life-long learning and faith formation.

l  Regularly give witness to Christ Jesus, by actively engaging in the life of the Catholic Church locally, being registered in on the parishes

Position Qualifications:

l  Active member of the Roman Catholic Church and faithful to the teachings of the church.

l  Paraprofessional help/counseling listening skills, crisis intervention and referral skills, group

processing and facilitation skills.

l  Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting.

l  Must have ability/experience in designing and implementing a variety of youth oriented

programs.

l  Ability to work with parents and children of all ages.

l  In compliance with the Policy for the Protection of Children of the Diocese of Erie.

l  Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

l  Knowledge of adolescent/pre-teen spiritual/personal development, youth cultures & sociology.
