Planner III - Environmental Planning Division

JOB Reviews subdivision and commercial site plans and building permit applications for compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations under the guidance and supervision of the Supervisor of the Environmental Planning Division; Performs other duties as assigned.

The hiring salary for this position is $69,971 - $77,251 annually; full salary range for this position is $69,971 - $120,494 annually. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Reviews and approve building and environmental permit applications and collaborate, as appropriate, with the Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays (CAC), Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA);
• Reviews and provide comments on proposed subdivision plats and commercial site plans for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations; attends and presents comments about projects at meetings of the Technical Evaluation Committee, as needed;
• Prepares staff reports and present findings to the Board of Appeals w/r/t applications seeking approval for variances and conditional use approvals and administrative appeals;
• Reviews and recommends revisions to Chesapeake Bay Critical Area ordinance;
• Collaborates with the Inspections Division and the Office of the County Attorney to resolve violations to Critical Area regulations;
• Guides property owners and development professionals on the interpretation and application of State and local Critical Area Program regulations;
• Uses GIS database to create maps depicting the environmental impact to a property; and
• Attends overnight conferences and training workshops; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

• Bachelor's degree; or
• Three years or more of job-related experience, or additional education in a specialized area;
• Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results;
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls.
