Position Overview
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a high-quality, developmentally appropriate preschool program that meets the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs of young children. The Preschool Teacher works collaboratively with staff and families to foster a nurturing, safe, and Christ-centered learning environment in alignment with established curriculum guidelines and Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with established curriculum and unit/concept guidelines
- Establish and post a daily class schedule balancing:
- Physical development
- Spiritual (Christian) development
- Social and emotional development
- Intellectual development
- Ensure daily activities include a variety of:
- Quiet and active experiences
- Child-initiated and teacher-directed activities
- Large and small muscle development
- Early math and science
- Language and literacy
- Christian lessons
- Creative expression through art, music, and literature
- Provide weekly lesson plans to the Preschool Director
· Instruct children in large group, small group, and individualized settings
Child Guidance & Supervision
- Ensure the needs of all children are met
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring safety at all times
- Use positive guidance and behavior management strategies
- Address and communicate children’s special needs with the Preschool Director
- Assist children with personal care needs such as bathroom use, first aid, coats, and shoes
Assessment & Communication
- Conduct fall and spring parent conferences:
- Fall: social and emotional adjustment
- Spring: academic progress (individual or small group assessments)
- Prepare and review progress reports annually with the Preschool Director
- Provide families with a monthly newsletter including:
- Letters, colors, shapes, numbers
- Unit/concept themes
- Field trips and special events
- Snack schedule
- Maintain availability to address parent and child concerns
Classroom Environment & Organization
- Prepare instructional materials and activity areas in multiple classrooms as needed
- Maintain an organized, engaging, and inviting classroom environment
- Ensure classrooms are cleaned, reset, and prepared at the end of each session
- Establish and follow clear dismissal procedures
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of students, families, and staff
- Attend required meetings and special events including:
- Parent Orientation Night
- Open House
- Advent Service
- V.I.P. Nights
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Preschool Director
Qualifications
(As defined by R 400.5103a in the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers)
- Meets educational and licensing requirements for Preschool Teachers in Michigan (CDA)
- Demonstrates understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Ability to relate positively with children, families, and staff
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
Pay: $18.50 per hour
