Description & Requirements

Psychiatrist – Psych-Oncology

St. Luke’s Cancer Institute is recruiting a Psychiatrist to join our growing Psych-Oncology program. This role will focus on providing psychiatric care to adults with cancer across the disease trajectory from diagnosis to treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life. The position is designed for a psychiatrist who values team-based care, close collaboration with oncology colleagues, and practical integration of mental health and palliative approaches into a busy community cancer center setting.

What you can expect from this role:

In an era when many physicians are rethinking where and how they want to practice, St. Luke’s Clinic has taken a deliberate approach: building a place where you can do your best work, feel supported, and grow your career. That focus has quietly positioned St. Luke’s as one of the most attractive practice locations in the region.

More than sixty specialties converge here, including Idaho’s only Children’s Hospital and Hospital at Home program. Physicians benefit from modern operating suites, advanced technology, and integrated support through technology – enabling them to spend more time on meaningful patient care and less on administrative burdens.

But inside St. Luke’s, the standout feature isn’t equipment or facilities—it’s the culture. Nationally recognized by the American Medical Association's Joy in Medicine program for reducing burnout and boosting clinician well-being, St. Luke’s leads in team collaboration, professional growth, and shared decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment for patients with cancer experiencing depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, delirium, or other mental health conditions.
  • Offer consultation-liaison psychiatry services for oncology inpatients and outpatients.
  • Support patients and families through transitions in care, survivorship, and advanced illness.
  • Work collaboratively with oncologists, palliative care clinicians, nurses, social workers, and integrative medicine providers to deliver whole-person care.
  • Contribute to care pathways and quality improvement projects that improve efficiency and patient experience in the cancer center.
  • Provide education and support to oncology staff regarding recognition and management of psychosocial distress.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree, board certification or eligibility in General Psychiatry.
  • Ideal fellowship training or substantial clinical experience in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in palliative care integration within oncology.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, community-based team.
  • Comfort with managing high-volume clinical care in an outpatient setting.
