JOB SUMMARY
-
The RN Triage Specialist provides clinical expertise, medical communication and quality nursing assessment working in conjunction with the access center team to provide telehealth guidance and care. The triage nurse will utilize a standardized protocol system to guide the patient triage process in response to the patient’s medical complaint and condition. Triage nurses will prioritize incoming and outgoing communications, give results, relay information between the provider and patient, schedule acute and routine visits. Triage nurses will use technology under the guidance of a Supervisor and / or Manager to determine the degree of urgency of the patient’s health problem, select the most appropriate disposition (time, location and provider to handle the problem), and provide protocol driven direction for where to seek care and care instructions for at home.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: See Licensure/Certification/registration requirements.

Experience: Three (3) years experience in patient care.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current license in Minnesota and Wisconsin to practice as a Registered Nurse. BLS Certification required within ninety (90) days of hire into position. Wisconsin Background Study upon hire and renewed per Wisconsin state law.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience: Previous experience in transfer center or access center, patient placement role, and intake RN experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent customer service skills a must. Computer skills essential. Ability to organize and service large volumes of information. Excellent follow through abilities to determine complete and accurate patient billing information. Communication activities promoting positive patient relations and prompt reimbursement. Ability to problem solve.

READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

WRITING - Basic: Ability to write simple correspondence.

SPEAKING - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
