JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Specialist-Transfusion Services in blood bank technology performs both routine and specialized tests in blood center and transfusion services, using methodology that conforms to the Standards for Blood Centers and Transfusion Services of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Coordinates activities with other members of the laboratory team. Performs routine laboratory work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Education: Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.

Experience: Two (2) years experience as an MLS or MLT in the specialty of transfusion services in the last five (5) years.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Board Certified as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or MT), must obtain ASCP certification as Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) within thirty (30) months of hire into this position.

Excellent communication skills; ability and desire to teach; ability to investigate and resolve questions and problems; knowledge of or the ability to obtain technical knowledge of particular laboratory transfusion medicine within a reasonable period of time; ability to objectively evaluate technical equipment and methodologies.
