This position is non-essential and is not required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
Summary
This position provides clerical support to an assigned work unit within the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO). Employees perform a variety of routine clerical duties necessary for the efficient operation of the unit. Positions may be assigned to a large operating division performing a broad range of general office support tasks or to a smaller specialized unit requiring focused clerical functions. Employees receive initial instruction and close supervision during training. Upon gaining the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, work is performed under direct supervision with regular review for accuracy and adherence to established standards and procedures.

Meets and greets the public, providing responses to questions for standard information and providing explanations of well-defined rules.
Takes telephone inquiries and complaints, ascertaining the nature of the call, and directing it to the appropriate entity; takes telephone messages.
Performs basic record keeping duties, maintains accurate filing of unit records, reports, and documentation.
Performs Light keyboard work, general data entry, and the processing of routine unit data.
Makes copies of various records, reports/documentation, and distributes to appropriate entities.
Operates office equipment, i.e., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
Acts as liaison between supervisors, other departments, and outside agencies, gathering and relaying information as needed.
Assists co-workers in support of duties, and completion of unit required job duties.
Performs high volume of telephone reception, responding to emails.
Performs related duties as directed.
May be subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must pass a comprehensive background/character investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and polygraph examination; fingerprinting will be required.
Education And/Or Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
Clerical Or Administrative Experience Preferred.
Human Resources experience preferred.
If applicant served in the military, an honorable discharge is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of valid Florida driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily sedentary, requiring light physical effort including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 10 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods at a computer or workstation. Manual dexterity is required for operating office equipment. Work is performed in typical office conditions with minimal exposure to environmental factors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment without exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dust, noise, fumes, or extreme temperatures.
