What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper position at St. Louis University High?
The Groundskeeper supports the mission of the school by maintaining safe, clean, and well-kept campus grounds. This role contributes to a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors through consistent care of landscaping and outdoor spaces.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Maintain lawns, landscaping, and outdoor spaces through mowing, trimming, raking, and seasonal care
- Prepare and upkeep athletic fields for practices and events
- Plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, and other greenery
- Apply fertilizers and treatments in accordance with safety guidelines
- Assist with snow and ice removal to ensure safe campus access
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment and irrigation systems
- Track basic maintenance and work orders as needed
- Support campus operations with additional duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and tools
- Working knowledge of groundskeeping practices, including safe use of herbicides and related chemicals
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Dependable with the ability to work independently and follow direction
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong time management skills
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior groundskeeping or landscaping experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical labor including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
