Position Overview:

Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care. The NP will manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions, coordinate care, and provide patient education. This role requires licensure in both Missouri and Illinois and includes covering nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including patient history, physical exams, and risk evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions such as hypertension, heart failure, and coronary artery disease.
  • Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests, including EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and lab results.
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac interventions, including catheterizations and pacemaker implantations.
  • Educate patients and families on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.


Coordination & Communication:

  • Coordinate patient care between cardiology, primary care providers, and other specialists.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff and physicians.
  • Facilitate appropriate follow-up care, outpatient testing, and emergency department coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Conduct peer-to-peer communications with patients' insurance companies to obtain necessary authorizations and approvals for treatments and procedures.


Hospital & Clinic Coverage:

  • Provide rounding services at affiliated hospitals.
  • Be available to see clinic patients as needed.
  • Assist in medical research by conducting physical exams and reviewing patient histories for study participation.
  • Respond to patient-related calls from staff and provide clinical input.


Schedule & Availability:

  • Participate in night, weekend, and holiday call rotations.
  • Work one weekend per month (full-time) or every other month (part-time).
  • Cover one winter and one summer holiday per year.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Board-certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC, AANP) with a focus on Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with cardiology experience.
  • Active NP licensure in both Missouri and Illinois.
  • Minimum of 2 years of cardiology experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and strong computer skills.
  • Ability to travel between practice locations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


Work Environment

This position is a clinical position and will consist of both inpatient and outpatient patient care.


Physical Requirements

This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
