POSITION OVERVIEW
The Neighborhood Transformation pillar of the Economic Justice Action plan is designed to “leverage community assets to transform physical, social and economic aspects of historically disinvested neighborhoods to build their collective capacity and wealth-building opportunities.”
Actions focus on building capacity and wealth within neighborhoods via increased homeownership, anti-displacement, reactivation of unoccupied land, equitable transit options, urban agriculture, home repair, and more. These tactics can be understood as strategies to advance housing justice, environmental justice, and commercial corridor revitalization. Partnering with other organizations and city departments will be necessary for transformative action across St. Louis. SLDC - and especially the Land Reutilization Authority (LRA) located within the agency - have a strong leadership role to play city-wide in working toward these goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Greet and welcome visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
- Answer and direct incoming calls to the appropriate person or department.
- Manage the reception area to ensure a neat and organized appearance.
- Assist clients and visitors with inquiries and provide basic information about the LRA programs offered.
- Coordinate with Real Estate Operations Manager to support and schedule appointments and property viewings.
- Perform general administrative tasks such as data entry, photocopying, and filing, operate a multi-line phone, handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
- Act as a liaison between clients, and other staff members, relay messages and detail information promptly and accurately.
- Assist Real Estate Operations Manager in the preparation and organization of real estate documents.
- Support clients with the navigation of online platforms for property searches.
- Address and resolve any issues or concerns raised by clients or visitors.

The ideal candidate should possess experience in office and administrative management, particularly in the context of supporting economic development or related areas like business or government. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, coupled with effective communication skills. The candidate should be adept at handlingvarious tasks simultaneously and collaborating with the team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate is quick to grasp new concepts, and proactive in solving problems. They should exhibit a willingness to both provide guidance and be receptive to coaching. Additionally, they should be open to approaching tasks and operations in innovative ways to optimize efficiency and overall department performance. Exceptional interpersonal skills, business acumen, and a strong work ethic are also vital qualities for this role.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- HS Diploma or Higher
- At least one (1) year in real estate, community development, administration, or other related experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications
- At least one (1) year of direct reception experience
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Requires St. Louis City residency within 180 days of successful completion of 180 day probationary period.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Requires ability to sit up to four hours at a time.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry files/papers of up to fifteen pounds.
- Requires the ability to distinguish objects clearly in near vision for writing and computer work.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The LRA Receptionist is the initial contact for those interested in acquiring LRA parcels. This a full-time, exempt position with health benefits and paid-time-off. While our traditional work hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, SLDC provides a flexible/hybrid work environment of both onsite and offsite work and follows a customized work schedule of 40-hours per week for full-time employees. Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand. (The hours of the Real Estate Receptionist are 8:00-5:00).
