What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at St. Louis County, MN?
Are you interested in being a heavy equipment mechanic performing journeyman mechanic work by diagnosing and repairing trucks and heavy equipment? This position is located at the Richard H. Hansen Public Works and Transportation Complex, in Pike Lake (Duluth).
An employee in this class performs difficult and skilled mechanical work. Duties include diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing light, medium and heavy equipment in the field or shop.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Graduation from a vocational training program in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment mechanics or equivalent program; OR, three (3) years of full-time paid verifiable experience as a heavy equipment mechanic; OR equivalent training and experience as determined by the director of human resources.
- Possession of a valid Class ‘D’ license with the ability to obtain a Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tank vehicle endorsement and without any of the following restrictions within twelve (12) months of employment: air brake, full air brake, manual transmission, or tractor trailer. Failure to obtain the appropriate Class ‘A’ license within twelve (12) months will result in termination from the position.
- Possession of MN DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification within twelve (12) months of employment. Failure to obtain the MN DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification within twelve (12) months will result in termination from the position.
