Position Summary

***This is an in-person, on-site position located in St. Louis, MO****
St. Louis Community College is currently seeking a full-time faculty member in the Associates of Applied Science Respiratory Care Program. Respiratory Care faculty are responsible for providing high-quality instruction, student mentoring, assessment, and service within the respiratory care department and college. Faculty support the mission of the college and the respiratory care program by preparing students to become competent entry-level respiratory therapists through classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical education.
This position collaborates with the Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, adjunct faculty, clinical affiliates, and college personnel to ensure students achieve established learning outcomes and demonstrate competency consistent with program, institutional, and accreditation standards.


Primary Duties Performed

Instruction

  • Teach respiratory care courses in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and online learning environments as assigned.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction that supports student success.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
  • Incorporate current respiratory care practices, technologies, and evidence into instruction
  • Student Learning and Assessment
  • Evaluate student knowledge, psychomotor skills, professional behaviors, and clinical competencies using valid and reliable assessment methods.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students regarding academic and clinical performance.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, competency documentation, and required college reports.
  • Participate in student advising, mentoring, remediation, and retention initiatives.
Laboratory and Simulation
  • Plan, facilitate, and evaluate laboratory and simulation learning experiences.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment consistent with infection prevention, equipment safety, and institutional policies.
  • Assist with maintenance, organization, inventory, and quality assurance of laboratory and simulation equipment.
Clinical Education Support
  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Education regarding student clinical performance.
  • Conduct clinical site visits and evaluate students in the clinical environment as assigned.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clinical affiliates and preceptors.
  • Reinforce integration of classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning.
Curriculum and Program Development
  • Participate in curriculum review, course revisions, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Assist with development and revision of course materials, learning activities, examinations, and competency assessments.
  • Contribute to program assessment activities, outcomes evaluation, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
  • Support program compliance with institutional, state, and accreditation requirements.
College and Professional Service
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and college committees.
  • Attend faculty meetings, advisory committee meetings, orientation, graduation ceremonies, and other required college events,
  • Maintain active involvement in professional organizations and respiratory care education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical and educational competence.

Qualifications/Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in respiratory care, education, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Experience using high-fidelity simulation in healthcare education.
  • Specialty credentials (e.g., Adult Critical Care, Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty, Sleep Disorders Specialist, Pulmonary Function Technology).
  • Active member of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
