Counselor/Advocate

Renewal House is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated Counselor/Advocate to provide trauma-informed advocacy and support services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This position works directly with survivors to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support and advocacy while helping individuals navigate the many systems they may encounter.

The Counselor/Advocate will provide survivor-centered support, promote empowerment and help connect survivors with resources related to housing, legal services, healthcare, financial assistance, counseling and other community supports.

This position requires strong communication skills, professionalism, empathy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working with individuals experiencing crisis and trauma.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and trauma-informed advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Assist survivors with safety planning, identifying options, and accessing resources
  • Provide information and referrals related to housing, healthcare, legal services, social services, counseling, and other community resources
  • Advocate with and on behalf of survivors with service providers, community agencies, and systems as needed
  • Provide accompaniment and support for appointments, including court, law enforcement, medical, and social service appointments
  • Complete required documentation and maintain accurate, confidential client records
  • Collaborate with community partners including law enforcement, courts, healthcare providers, DSS, mental health providers, and other service organizations
  • Participate in outreach, education, and agency activities as needed

A degree in social work, counseling, human services, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant experience in crisis services, advocacy, human services, or lived experience will also be considered.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and phone
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional evening/weekends
