The School Bus Transportation Secretary provides administrative and clerical support to the transportation department, focusing on managing communication, scheduling, and record-keeping for school bus routes and drivers. QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of secretarial procedures and of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
High level of verbal/communication skills.
Excellent administrative, organizational, and keyboarding skills are also required.
High level of expertise in word processing/spreadsheet programs is essential.
Must hold a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Must pass a criminal background investigation and drug screen.
Valid Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability; and CDL (preferred passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements or equivalent).

Communication and Coordination:
- Act as the main point of contact for parents, drivers, school staff, and other stakeholders.
- Address inquiries regarding bus schedules, routes, delays, and other transportation issues.
- Relay important information from the transportation department to drivers and parents.
- Assist in creating and maintaining daily bus schedules and routes.
- Coordinate substitute drivers and arrange coverage when necessary.
- Monitor daily route operations, addressing delays or last-minute changes.

- Maintain accurate records of driver certifications, route changes, vehicle maintenance schedules, and incident
- Update and manage databases related to bus routes, driver assignments, and student transportation needs.
- Track and document driver hours and absences for payroll and reporting.
- Prepare and distribute department memos, notices, and other communication materials.
- Process requisitions, invoices, and other financial paperwork related to transportation services.
- Assist in managing department files, including confidential driver and student records.
