Academic Interventionist (Pupil Appraisal)

Job Goal: 

To provide direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable students to develop literacy and mathematical skills.   

Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience):   

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid Louisiana Teacher Certificate.
• Additional criteria the Superintendent and/or School Board may establish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Domain I: Planning and Preparation-Setting Instructional Outcomes (1C)
• Establish instructional outcomes by identifying exactly what students will be expected to learn including rigor and expectations.
• Write instructional outcomes in the form of student learning targets.
• Determine instructional activities and the resources needed to complete.
• Determine instructional activities with suitability for diverse learners.
• Plan for appropriate methods of assessment to determine a level of student attainment.
• Differentiate instruction for students of varied abilities.
• Create measurable outcomes central to the discipline and related to those in other disciplines.

• Domain II: Managing Classroom Procedures (2C)
• Establish and monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and the efficient use of time.
• Use and manage instructional groups effectively.
• Transition between activities and management of materials to maintain momentum and maximize instructional time.
• Establish efficient routines and teach students to employ them effectively.

• Domain III: Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques (3B)
• Use questioning and discussion techniques to deepen student understanding.
• Use divergent as well as convergent questions framed in a way that they facilitate forming hypotheses, making connections, and challenging previously held views
• Value student responses to questions by responding to them and using their ideas as a foundation for discussion.
• Use high quality questions to encourage students to make connections amongst concepts or events previously believed to be unrelated and arrive at new understandings of complex material.
• Pose questions for which they do not know the answers; thus, eliciting student responses, opening lines of communication, and promoting thinking by students.
• Engage all students in important issues and in using their own language to deepen and extend their understanding.
• Allow students to formulate questions used in class discussions.
• Teach students how to formulate high-level questions.
• Promote learning through discussion.
• Use a range of techniques to ensure that all students contribute to the discussion and enlist the assistance of students to ensure the outcome.

• Domain III: Engaging Students in Learning (3C)
• Actively involve students in important and challenging content aligned with lesson objectives.
• Develop student understanding through engagement activities.
• Provide choice of work and assists students in making important contributions to the intellectual life of the class.
• Create activities and assignments that promote learning and are aligned to the goals of the lesson.
• Create activities and assignments that require student thinking that emphasize depth over breadth allowing students to exercise choice.
• Group students of similar background and skill.
• Use instructional materials that are developmentally appropriate to the students’ experience as well as the course content.
• Allow time for reflection and closure in all lessons.
• Facilitate instruction with students taking a major role in their learning.

• Domain III: Using Assessment in Instruction (3D)
• Recognize assessment to be an integral part of instruction.
• Assess and monitors student learning by eliciting evidence of student understanding using a variety of techniques.
• Monitor student understanding offering timely and constructive feedback providing guidance to students in areas of needed improvement.
• Circulate in the classroom to monitor student learning.
• Create questions or use techniques to ascertain the degree of understanding of every student.
• Provide student with clear criteria for learning. Teach the skills necessary for students to check their skills and assume responsibility for their learning.
• Reflect on craft and recognizes the need for adjustments in instruction.
• Engage students in self- or peer- assessment.

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

The position encompasses a variety of physical demands, including the need for sustained energy levels throughout the day.  Essential skills involve lifting and carrying instructional materials, demonstrating fine and grow motor skills for tasks such as writing and facilitating activities, and maintaining sensory capabilities for effective engagement with both visual and auditory aspects of teaching.  Adaptability, multitasking, and crisis management skills are crucial for creating dynamic learning environments and responding to diverse classroom needs.  Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as collaboration with colleagues and parents, contribute to fostering a positive educational experience.

This position may require travel throughout the district.

Terms of Employment:  10 month

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130).
