Role Description The Histology Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Savannah, GA, responsible for preparing high-quality tissue specimens for diagnostic and research purposes. Day-to-day responsibilities include receiving and accessioning specimens, performing fixation, embedding, microtomy, and routine and special staining techniques in accordance with established protocols. The role involves operating and maintaining histology laboratory equipment, following safety procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation and labeling of all samples. The Histology Technician collaborates closely with pathologists and other laboratory professionals to support timely and reliable diagnostic reporting and participates in quality control activities to maintain regulatory and accreditation standards. The position may also support process improvements, contribute to training of new staff, and assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in Histology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
- Experience working in a Pathology environment with an understanding of diagnostic workflows and specimen handling requirements.
- Strong Laboratory Skills, including equipment operation, biosafety practices, and accurate specimen labeling and documentation.
- Knowledge of Quality Control procedures, regulatory standards, and best practices for maintaining laboratory accuracy and compliance.
- ASCP certification (HT or HTL) or eligibility is strongly preferred.
- Completion of an accredited histotechnology or laboratory science program; relevant associate degree or equivalent education and training required.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting turnaround times.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Willingness to adhere to the mission and values of a faith-based, patient-centered health system.
