Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Principal, the secondary teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting instruction and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; a high level of collaboration with their colleagues, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teaches district-approved curriculum
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and adapts the curriculum to the needs of individual students
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
- Creates a safe, welcoming, and flexible learning environment
- Coordinates & collaborates with other secondary professional staff members, especially within the department, to evaluate and assess curriculum, instructional practice, and assessment data
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
- Maintains professional competence through Professional Development activities provided by the district, professional meetings, educational conferences, and/or self-selected professional growth activities
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all student affairs
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community
- Performs other duties as assigned
