The St. Joseph Child Care Center Program Director plans, organizes, implements, coordinates and manages services of the early childhood program, exercising independent judgement and decision- making reflective of the Felician Core Values for Ministry (Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Transformation, Solidarity with People in Need, and Justice & Peace). Under general supervision, the Program Director operates the Center in accordance with the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers. The role includes integration of the key elements of developmentally appropriate practices and high-quality early childhood education in accordance with standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Program Director works to achieve a five-star rating under the Great Start to Quality program. The Program Director also works with Oakland County and the State of Michigan to coordinate and manage the Great Start to Readiness Program (GSRP) and is responsible for the oversight of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the Center.
Responsibilities include overseeing the comprehensive management of the Center’s school-year and summer programs, including the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational activities for children. The Program Director collaborates closely with the Center’s Educational Liaison and staff to support the delivery of the Creative Curriculum teaching method, and is committed to maintaining a high standard of program excellence.
The Program Director supports the development, promotion, and execution of the Strategic Plan; oversees staff scheduling and management; and supports the FSCCC President to implement and maintain efficient and effective administrative, educational, financial, and quality care practices.
The Program Director works closely with the Business Office in arriving at a realistic and balanced annual budget. The Program Director maintains actual expenses within budget.
The Program Director contributes to the collaborative decision-making process and leads in the planning, implementing and evaluating of the Center’s goals. The Program Director is directly responsible to the Felician Sisters Child Care Centers, Inc., President for the performance of his or her duties. Periodic performance evaluations will be based upon duties outlined in this job description as well as the NAEYC benchmarks as outlined in the Annual Ministry Assessment.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, child development and/or other related fields preferred
- 5 years’ experience within early care working in a licensed childcare setting
- 2 years in a leadership position in an early child care center
- Comply with Program Director qualifications as required by the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers
- Knowledge of the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers, Great Start to Quality Program, Great Start to Readiness Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program
- Current CPR, First Aid certification
- Proficient user of MS Office software and phone systems
- Criminal background check
- Required attendance - Protecting God’s Children training
- Exemplary interpersonal, collaborative, team building, and planning skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Managerial Leadership:
- Develop a professional staff committed to teamwork and camaraderie in mission
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of the State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers (SOM), Great Start to Quality (GSTQ) and Great Start to Readiness Program (GSRP) methods along with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
- Manage day-to-day activities
- Engage staff in shared decision-making as appropriate
- Assist in preparation of budgets, adhere to budget, and monitor actual to budget activity
- Meet with other administrators, parents, and community organizations
- Participate in the hiring process of new staff, mindful to look for candidates who reflect the Center’s core values
- Prepare reports for the Board of Directors that reflect implementation of the Strategic Plan
- Adhere to the Conflict Resolution Policy to resolve conflicts
- Evaluate all aspects of the program together with staff members and Mission Leader and take necessary steps to implement improvement
Performance Duties:
- Provide support and constructive feedback to assist teachers and assistants in implementation of SOM, GSTQ, GSRP and CACFP requirements
- Classroom observations to ensure compliance with SOM licensing, GSTQ GSRP and CACFP accreditation standards are being met
- Classroom onboarding/training for new staff
- Plan and oversee, with the assistance of the Educational Liaison, continuing education/professional development for staff and parents
- Report to the State of Michigan Licensing and Child Protective Services as required under mandated reporting laws
- Regular communication with the President and leadership team
- Supports and implements the Mission Integration Plan
- Cooperate with administration, faculty, and staff in supporting and implementing policies, including disciplinary policies
- Maintain the confidentiality of the Ministry, and the Ministry employees, children and families
- Attendance at facility, committee and in-service meetings, as well as professional development/workshops, during or outside the regular school hours
- Oversee all St. Joseph Child Care Center staff, provide regular feedback, including performance evaluations
- Oversee acquisition of supplies, equipment, and materials ensuring that all purchases are with budget

EnvironmentalConditions:
- Performs duties with exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to the care of children
- Occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children
- Daily exposure to outdoor elements (sun, wind, cold, etc.)
