What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook'S Assistant position at St. Joseph Academy?
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Summary: The Cook\'s Assistant (CA) assists
the Head Cook (HC) to assure breakfast, lunch and snack services
rendered at St. Joseph Academy (SJA) are extended consistent with
accepted national food handling standards, SJA mission and values, the
policies and procedures of the institution, and the standards of all
regulating and licensing agencies. The CA performs a variety of food
preparation services in the delivery of the SJA children\'s breakfast,
lunch and snack delivery. The CA performs a variety of sanitary services
during all breakfast and lunch services. The CA is responsible for
equipment operations, sanitization; facility cleaning, and trouble
shooting in production area to alert management of equipment
malfunctions and/or failures. The CA position is year-round, with
reduced hours during School days off and summer months. Position Reports
to: Food Services Supervisor or, during Supervisor absence, Head Cook
Qualifications: High school degree or GED required Experience in food
Service/kitchen Preferred Safe Serve Certification Required Within 6
months Demonstrated ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and
implement solutions Interest in working with a child population Ability
to work cooperatively with people in and outside of Food Services
department Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and
effectively interact with children, families, and staff members
Possesses good hand-eye coordination Ability to read, write and follow
directions and instructions Detail oriented; ability to multi-task, set
priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines Equipment Used: Food
Service Equipment Physical and Mental Requirements: Must have ability to
walk and stand routinely throughout the shift. Must have the ability to
occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. with ease and push up to 350 lbs. with
the appropriate equipment. Must have the ability to deal effectively
with the stress of responding quickly and be engaged in multiple tasks.
Environmental Conditions: Performs duties with exposure to infectious or
communicable diseases inherent to care of children and occasional
exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of
children and seasonal exposure to high humidity due to temperature
control of the facility. Exposure to varying types of ware chemicals,
cleaning agents and various types of food service areas that contain
