What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute School Nurse (LPN/RN) position at ST JOHNSBURY SCHOOL?
The St. Johnsbury School District is seeking an experienced and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a substitute in our school health office. This position provides skilled nursing care, promotes student health and wellness, and supports a safe learning environment when the regular school nurse is unavailable. We have approximately 600 students in preschool through grade 8 in our building and approximately 250 employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and management of acute and chronic health conditions, including diabetes.
- Assess student health complaints and determine appropriate interventions or referrals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators regarding student health needs.
- Support immunization compliance and public health initiatives as directed by the school nurse.
- Respond to health-related emergencies following district protocols.
- Promote a positive, caring, and inclusive environment for all students.
Qualifications:
- Current Vermont LPN or RN license required.
- Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.
Schedule:
- As needed, on a per diem basis during the school year.
